Book Review~ The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency

I checked out The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith from the library, after hearing several people talking about it.  I guess I’m a little behind the times, since there are about 10 books in the series now. I very much enjoyed this book, and 2 of the sequels.

The series is set in Botswana, Africa, and made me “homesick.” I haven’t lived in Africa for 7 years now, and never in that part of the continent, but McCall’s descriptions show that he loves and understands Africa’s people and landscape. And he made me miss it.

The stories are quite enjoyable. These books are definitely easy reading, but are clean, amusing, and just good fun. They center around a lady detective, and involve her personal and professional life as she begins her career. I recommend these books if you’re wanting some fun reading, with the added bonus of a flavor of Africa.

About Rachel

Most importantly, I am saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is more than enough to satisfy my heart. In His abundant goodness, I am also delighted to be a wife and mama. I work at home and enjoy spending most of my time caring for my husband, 2 sons and new daughter. I also try to squeeze in some creativity, coffee, chocolate, and good books.
